Yorktown, VA - October 9, 2003 - York County's very own Community Network portal, www.YorkCountyVA.org, officially launched October 9th as a community service project of the York County Chamber of Commerce (YCCC).
Carl Loveland - YCCC President, said the site is worth getting excited about. "We are thrilled to present the portal as a medium to make York County a closer community. Our goal is to foster an improved sense of community; improve communications; present York County to the world as a great place to live, work and play; and enhance our local economic base."
The portal is packed with content and features designed for every sector of our community:
 Civic/social organizations
"The site belongs to York County, and it's all about the community, and for it to work, we need input from the community and welcome participation at all levels." Loveland said.
York County residents can participate in local forums, vote on surveys, post free classified ads, create Blogs/Journals, and receive special discounts reserved for York County residents by local businesses. And much, much more.
We provide space and easy to use online tools for social, civic, religious, and education organizations, where they can publish content, contact information, calendars, photos and much more. There is no cost for any York County organization, neighborhood, teacher or governmental office. Organizations can use this instead of sending out a printed newsletters.
We ask each organization, neighborhood, and school as a minimum to update their home page on the site with an overview sketch. If they already have their own sites, we provide a hyperlink to it.
The site contains information on all local aspects of community life in York County, including photo albums, article library, movie listings, calendar events and information on local government and businesses.
A critical part of our community is the local businesses. "Keep it in the County" is one of our objectives. We want to make it easy and convenient for York County residents to find and support local businesses, keeping York County dollars in York County.
For local businesses, we have community sponsorship program that includes a robust suite of tools designed to help you grow and prosper - at a ridiculously low cost - less than you pay for that daily cup of Starbucks coffee.
