This Fall, Washington and Comte de Grasse will return to Yorktown.
Yorktown Day, October 19, 2005, Yorktown will mark a significant event that will add to the already storied history of this beautiful, famous place. The collaboration of General George Washington and Admiral Francois Joseph Paul, Comte de Grasse will be memorialized in a way never before seen in Yorktown: Life-size statues of both men will serve as a dignified centerpiece to the Riverwalk Landing project. Their presence will remind us that the freedoms we enjoy today were achieved in large measure by the climactic Battle of Yorktown along these very shores 225 years earlier.
Local artist Cyd Player is sculpting the two statues using exacting standards: Attention will be paid to detail right down to the last button on their uniforms.
The Yorktown Foundation invites you to participate in supporting the creation of these monuments to two of the heroic men who helped shape the future of our country.
Your contribution will ensure that many future generations who visit Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown will never forget, as they enjoy the stores and restaurant, the sacrifices that were made here in a much harder time.
