A dream has been realized! A steering committee was formed in the spring of 2004 to begin the search for a site for a Boys & Girls Club in York County. After a year of persevering, that search ended with success. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Edwin Joseph, chairman and founder of Great Atlantic Management, and his family, land was donated for the future site of the York County Boys & Girls Club. The land is located on Goosley Road adjacent to Yorktown Middle School. In October of 2005, a Board of Directors consisting of local civic and business leaders was formed. Plans are now underway to begin fundraising for the building. Questions call Brenda Bowman 898-0648 or Steve Kast 223-7204.
Update: March 6, 2006 - A satellite club for the York County Boys & Girls Club has begun at the Charles E. Brown Community Center in Lackey. The Club meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. Enrollment has already reached the maximum capacity for the Charles E. Brown Center, a great indicator of exciting things to come for the youth of York County.
