YORK RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
YORK COUNTY, VIRGINIA
November 1, 2010
Dear YRTA Friends,
It was wonderful seeing so many of you at our first meeting this year at Riverwalk. Again, welcome to our new members. We began the year in style with delicious food, an informative program, and wonderful fellowship. If you have not already done so, look at the pictures of the meeting which have been posted on our website http://www.YRTA.org/.
The next meeting of the York Retired Teachers Association will take place on November 17, 2010 at 11:30 am. It will be held at The Villas which is located on Rt. 17 just slightly south of York High School. Lunch will consist of salad, chicken noodle soup/crackers, and sandwiches ( ham/turkey/cheese). Dessert is also included. This will cost $5 which will be a donation to the new Social Committee that has been formed at The Villas. The Villas will be providing 3 door prizes! Our program will be on Heart Health.
A parking attendant, as well as members of YRTA will be available to direct parking on the inner loop. Those needing special parking will be given assistance. It seems that many of our members like to travel together to the meetings. To insure ample parking access, carpooling is encouraged.
The telephone callers need to have the count in to Bev Woodard no later than Friday, November 10th. If you have not been contacted by then and plan to attend, please call Bev Woodard at 566-2205. It is important that our lunch count be as accurate as possible.
The VRTA District B Retired Teachers Association will have its District Meeting on Tuesday, November 9 at 11:30 am at The Chesapeake on 955 Harpersville Road. Registration will begin at 11:00. The entre choices will be Chicken Chesapeake (sauted chicken breast with lemon beurre blanc sauce) or Seafood Stuffed Flounder (stuffed with shrimp & sea legs). The cost for lunch is $15.00. The program will be Safety for Seniors presented by Lieutenant Eric Mansfield from the Newport News Police Department. This is an opportunity to meet teachers from the neighboring districts. If you plan to attend this meeting, please call Kathy Young at 872-7096 by Nov. 3. Be sure to indicate which luncheon choice you prefer. I have heard from several of you already and I am pleased that YRTA will be so well represented.
Thanks to all who contributed to our school supplies collection. The supplies were delivered to the Boys/Girls Club. I would also like to remind you of our canned food collection that will take place at the November meeting. Your donations will be given to the food bank. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
We would like to continue the good attendance at our meetings this year. If you know a retiree who is not a member of our group, or someone who is newly retired that has not yet joined, why not call them and encourage them to attend. Hope to see you at The Villas on November 17th.
Best to all of you,
