Making Connections that Matter

Greetings YRTA Members,


Could it be that there are hints of spring in the air?  Hopefully, the worst of winter is behind us and we can look forward to warm and sunny days ahead.  Thoughts of spring bring to mind our March meeting and the Scholarship Fund Auction.  Our meeting will take place on Thursday, March 17, 2011, at 11:30 am at Crooks Memorial Methodist Church on Cook Road in Yorktown.   Lunch will be a choice of baked salmon or baked chicken, vegetables, dessert, and beverage.  The cost of the luncheon will be $15.00.   PLEASE FEEL FREE TO INVITE A GUEST!!    We would love to have others join us and participate in the auction.  The telephone callers need to have the count in by Saturday, March 12.  If you have not been contacted by then and you do plan to attend, please call Bev Woodard at 566-2205.  Be aware that once the count is given, we must pay for the number of lunches that are ordered.  It is very important that our count be accurate.  Make sure if you are bringing a guest that you given your guest�s name and entr�e selection to your contact person.    When paying on the day of the meeting, please try to have the exact amount.  That will make collecting the money easier

 Each member is asked to donate at least one item to be auctioned.  If you prefer to make a monetary donation to the scholarship fund you may do so.  However, please specify that the money is for the scholarship fund.  We have had some very interesting auction items in the past.  Be as creative and resourceful as you wish in determining just what you wish to contribute.   This is one of our major fundraising sources for the scholarship, so your participation is very important.   On the day of our meeting, we will provide 3x5 cards for you to fill out with a description of your item for auction and the suggested value of the item.


The date for the spring luncheon meeting for District B has been changed again.  The new date is May 24th.   The luncheon will be held at the Chesapeake.  More information will be forthcoming.   Also, the VRTA Spring Delegate Assembly will be held May 9-10, 2011, at Virginia United Methodist Assembly Center in Blackstone, VA.  I will pass along further information about this when I receive it.

Thank you to those who took part in the Read Across America celebration at Yorktown Elementary and Tabb Elementary in February.  These were wonderful opportunities for our group to support teachers and students in the classroom.  Both schools very much appreciated our participation.


I look forward to seeing you March 17th.  Let�s make this the best auction ever!!
