This is a three-hour information session for new and start-up businesses provided by the Small Business Development Center of Hampton Roads, Inc. The class covers the very basic steps to starting and running a small business.

Topics include:

  • Marketing
  • Financing
  • Business Plan

The instructors are SBDC counselors with extensive experience in various aspects of business and entrepreneurship. Upon completion of the class, potential small business owners can schedule an appointment for individual counseling.

Houston E. Gray, Acting District Director of the Small Business Administration�s Richmond District Office today announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration will conduct an �Entrepreneur Express� workshop offering information about SBA�s products and services with the ultimate goal of increasing access to capital (loans) to small businesses in the Mechanicsville area. The workshop will be held on Thursday, March 17th in the Training Room of the Richmond Times Dispatch Building, 8460 Times Dispatch Boulevard, Mechanicsville, Virginia. The workshop will be conducted from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In announcing the workshop Mr. Gray said, �I want to encourage all small business owners and entrepreneurs in the Mechanicsville/Hanover County area, whether they currently own a small business or are just thinking about starting a new venture, to take advantage of this opportunity to meet industry experts and learn about the products and services available to assist them.�

Other Access to Capital Workshops have been scheduled and conducted in the following locations: Danville, South Boston, Manassas, Clifton Forge, Covington, Hampton, Melfa, Cape Charles, Appomattox and Amelia County.

The workshops will provide information on various SBA programs including the Community Express Loan Program, Microloans, LowDoc loans, 7(a) loans and 504 loans. Loan applications for SBA Community Express Loans of $5,000 to $15,000 may be accepted on-site. Participants will also learn about the SBA�s Business Development Programs which include the 8(a) Business Development Program, HUBZone Empowerment Contracting Program, and Small Disadvantaged Business Certification Program.
