Your donations provide the revenue that funds our mission ... providing emergency assistance to York County and Poquoson residents who have urgent needs and few resources. A Family Assistance Committee receives and responds to requests for help with food, clothing, household furnishings, transportation, child care, medical treatment, school fees or other necessities. Clothing and household furnishings are provided to residents in emergency situations.
Your donations create miracles. Each year hundreds of families and individuals throughout York and Poquoson receive assistance from the York County Volunteer Association. Together with your generosity, we are able to provide aid and services that make a difference in the lives of those who need it. Your gifts, whether financial, material or through volunteering, make it possible for those we serve to create lasting changes in their lives and build a better future for themselves.
Because we are a volunteer member organization, 92 percent of our profit for the fiscal year is returned to the community. Anything can turn up at The Bargain Box, from designer and vintage clothing to unique home furnishing, finds from within our vast selection of toys and electronics -- just about everything you can imagine. You can also come across name-brand designer fashions, jewelry, wedding gowns, antiques and other amazing finds. Smart shoppers from around Hampton Roads come to find bargains and to support our service.
The Bargain Box offers a selection of gently used furniture, rugs, linens, household goods, small appliances and small television sets, womens and mens clothing as well as childrens clothing (including designer labels), shoes, jewelry, and accessories. All the merchandise is donated by generous people in our community.
Do you have reusable goods you'd like to donate to one of our organization? Want to drop off a donation directly at The Bargain Box? We are happy to accept donations of quality re-sellable items on our charities' behalf. Let the Bargain Box turn your recyclable clothing, household items and furniture into dollars that create a world of difference in so many lives. We no longer accept mattresses or bed frames (except free-standing rails.) There are drop boxes at the front entrance as ell as a drop box located on the side of the building.
When you are in the mood for spring cleaning or if you have occasion to go through that attic or storage room, please keep us in mind and donate your wares. Household items, toys, books and [clean] clothing that can be sold without repair are greatly appreciated. And when you drop off your donations, take a moment to browse the thrift store for fine collectibles, antiques, or other treasures. Whatever you are able to do, whether it is a donation of time, talent or financial support, we appreciate your assistance. Take action now to preserve the charitable tax deduction you can take when you donate clothing and household items to The Bargain Box. A receipt for your donation can be picked up from one of the clerks at the register or from either our manager or assistant manager.
While we do sort and discard worn or damaged clothing, we like to leave it up to you to be sure it's in acceptable condition before donating. Check zippers, seams and buttonholes for damage, and above all check for stains.
